Fiberglass Patch on a Natural Nail

Fiberglass can also be used to mend a cracked natural nail. With the strength of the fiber and the clarity small fiberglass patches can be applied over small cracks. Fiberglass allows the nail technician to save a clients natural nail that would have been lost but it creates a add on service raising the ticket price of a manicure.

Fiberglass patch give client many benefits:

  1. Saves a natural nail that normally would be cut off when cracked or torn.
  2. The woven fiber gives the strength to cracks in the natural nail.
  3. When using fiberglass the patch can be applied quickly often as a add on service to a manicure.
  4. Patches when applied correctly are almost invisible

Continue with manicure.Buff all file makes outUsing 100 grit file smooth all imperfections. Be careful not to file off the material if you need to add another layer of resin, followed by activator. Repeat steps 12 and 13ActivatePlace a small bead of resin (glue) on the center of the nail, using the nozzle spread it left than right.Cut a piece of material the size to cover the crack and the surrounding area. Always leaving a small margin around the edge of the nail.Repeat steps 8 and 9. You should have 2 layers of resin on the natural nail. If your using a activator in a spray bottle prime it by spraying it away from you and your client. This insures that when you spay it on your clients nails it will be the correct full pump, and not a dribble half spray that could cause problems. Holding the spray bottle at your shoulder of at least 12 inches away spray one full pump. If you miss do NOT re spray the resin(glue) will dry on its own, re spraying could cause the heat effect. You want the activator to be a fine mist that hovers over the nail and gently lands on the nail bed. Squeeze your glue bottle watching the glue move up the nozzle to the tip. Carefully place a small bead of resin (glue) on the crack in the nail bed using your nozzle swipe it left than right covering a small area around the crack.. Leaving a smooth thin layer of resin covering the natural nail. Remove dust by using a sanitized manicure brush. Never use a cosmetic brush which has been commonly used in the industry in the past. Dusting nails with an cosmetic brush creates static electricity which draws the dust to the brush and then spread over other nails. Cosmetic brushes are made of natural hair and can not be sanitized. Spreading dust and contaminating the nail surface with a dirty brush can cause the enhancement to lift. Apply nail sept, nail cleaner, or a product used to sanitize and dehydrate such as IBD’s Nail Prep to sanitize the nail plate. Do not use alcohol to sanitize the nail plate. Alcohol is a petroleum based product and does leave a residue which also is contributes to lifting. Before you begin the manicure do all repairs using a 180 grit file gentle remove the shine from your customers natural nail only in the area of the crack. If the nail is tender due to the trauma of the crack be very gentle. Remember a client should NEVER feel pain when in your chair.Gentle push back cuticles. Remove old polish if any. Fiberglass Enhancements

Fiberglass Enhancements are always a tip overlay. Fiberglass can be sculpted but it is not recommend as a means to create a SET of enhancement, but can be free formed to give a small amount of length or add a missing corner (more on fiber sculpts under Fiberglass sculpts). Fiberglass is hands down the thinnest enhancement available today and is easily applied. Fiberglass provides many benefits to clients:

  1. Light Weight
  2. Natural Looking
  3. Strong
  4. Easy to apply
  • Spray Activator on the resin to activate the drying process.
  • Place the tip at a 45 degree angle pressing it firmly against the edge of the natural nail and slowly roll it forward creating a squeegee effect. Pushing the small line of glue to the seam.

When working with colored gel one simply rule applies and once you understand why it’s simple to remember. Color which is pigment in the gel blocks the uv rays. So if you apply the colored gel to thick it may not cure underneath because the uv rays can ‘t penetrate the gel fully. So thin is always better than thick with working with colored gel.

The re resin technique can be used as a in between service. Some technician will resin after 2 weeks and fill after another 2 weeks.
